Courses Extend Season with Crescent Driving Range Covers

The beautiful Schneiter's Riverside Golf Course, with tree lined fairways and unique greens, opened in 1960 as a 9-hole course. It lies down in a valley alongside the Weber River and its tree-lined fairways made Riverside one of the most popular golf courses in the area. In 1985, additional land was purchased and the course was expanded to the current 18-hole course enjoyed today. Ernie Schneiter, owner of the course, later opened Schneiter's Bluff course near the entrance to Antelope Island with spectacular views of the Great Salt Lake, Antelope Island and the Wasatch Mountains. "We have 2 public play golf courses in the family, and I have 2 sons and 2 daughters all working in golf. We've been at the Riverside location for 45 years and we built another course out west 10 years ago. We're just tickled to death to be able to work at something we enjoy and make a living at it," shares Schneiter, a long-time PGA professional. "Here in the mountains we have wonderful bent grass greens, which is preferred throughout the world. We'll do probably 60,000 to 70,000 rounds per year and that's pretty heavy play."

To continue to offer the ability to play through intense heat, wind, and rain, the Schneiter's looked for a driving range solution that would allow them to extend the golf season and accommodate golfers who wanted to play despite the challenging weather. The QuickStructures™ Crescent™ Series proved to be the perfect product to allow golfers the ability to practice virtually any day, even after snow. "We have 2 Crescent structures. We put the one in at the Schneiter's Bluff course in July and that was right in the middle of the heat, with 105°F (40.6°C) days," says Schneiter. "It did help and the guys that wanted to hit some balls could go out because they were in the shade. It also helps if you have a windy day or a drizzly day. It takes care of the guys that just want to hit some balls as they can get under the shelter of the Crescent building."

The length of a Crescent™ building can be customized to fit the space on any range. For the privacy and protection of customers, bay panels are available to separate and create individual practice areas. The design of the building with wheels makes the Crescent™ Series easy to move or relocate. "The building we put up at Riverside in early October is on wheels so that it can be moved from area to area if you wish, and 2 guys can move it comfortably. We have 4 bays in that one, as we do in the other, and they are 12 ft bays which seems to give enough space for a golfer," says Schneiter.

For the Schneiter's courses, the Crescent™ buildings also proved to be valuable for golf instruction to extend the season and provide additional revenue for the course. "The building makes for a great teaching area. In the middle of October, the sun's shining bright, the grass is great and Curt is still able to offer lessons and if we can elongate this learning time, teaching time, it helps everybody. It develops better golfers and keeps food in Curt's mouth!"
